Offering Comfort to Survivors

Through a nation-wide collective effort of volunteers, quilters from across Canada craft full-sized blankets that are then sent to survivors of the Residential School System and survivors of other trauma.

Their efforts are backed by generous donations that support costs of logistics and materials.

These quilts are a symbol of support, respect, and love.

Our Sponsors

Quilters from all over the world have donated blocks, fabric, time, and funds to help keep this project continuing until every survivor of a Canadian residential school has received a comfort quilt. While the grass roots efforts have been overwhelming, the group requires funds to reach this goal of a handmade comfort quilt for every survivor.

These companies have generously supported Quilts For Survivors reach for our goal.

Our Story

My name is Vanessa Genier. I am an Indigenous mother from Missanabie First Nation in Ontario. I have a passion for quilting and believe that a quilt is love sewn together to bring people together.

I started a group on Facebook asking other quilters to join me to make quilt blocks to honour residential school survivors. We wish to honour the lives of the children who are just now finding their way home as Turtle Island releases the children back to their Nations across this land.

Mission Statement: To create comfort and healing through the making and giving of quilts.

Vision Statement: To see that all living survivors receive a quilt.
